Becoming a Therapy Team
Are you interested in becoming a Therapy Dog Team? You and your furry friend can qualify to bring the human-animal connection to individuals and facilities in need. There are several national and international programs that certify teams. The process includes testing the dog and handler in a variety of situations, background check, and insuring the team while on official therapy visits.
For information and detailed applicant qualifications for registering your dog for therapy work, visit the website of one of these therapy dog programs:
Still Unsure?
Many of the obedience skills needed for therapy certification are those practiced and tested in the AKC Canine Good Citizen title. While this is not a required step for any of the programs listed above, and it, alone, is not adequate for therapy work with WOOF, it may be an exploratory step to determine if you and your dog are ready to pursue certification.
